The Sin Eater by Megan Campisi
An alternate Sixteenth Century English Court has sentenced fourteen year old May Owens to life as an outcast. For the crime of stealing bread, May was given a life sentence she must become a sin eater. Sin Eaters cannot speak or interact with the general public outside of the act of hearing dying people’s final confessions and the ritual of eating foods symbolizing their sins as a funeral rite. After the death of someone in the high court, May is forced to eat foods identifying incorrect sins which lead to her learning a dangerous secret that puts her life at risk.
