Shame Is An Ocean I Swim Across Mary Lambert

Kate’s Pick:

This is a wonderful and heartbreaking collection of poetry in which Lambert explores the themes of mental illness, self-image, and abuse.  I initially picked up the book because I recognized the author's name and remembered that she was a singer.  After starting the collection I was blown away by the deep emotions and sentiments expressed through the poems.  This collection is longer than most, with 170 pages, and I couldn't put it down.  Highly recommend for people who are looking to start reading more poetry and don't know where to start.
